Stud-land and Paddock Analysis with Bespoke Nutrient Improvement Treatment

Price is indicative of typical quotes per hectare (around €175), for both the mineral dressing and Manna Grow. The initial soil test is required to produce a quotation.

Based on the results of your soil test, tailor-made mineral dressings are formulated to be applied to your paddocks, ensuring that the soil’s rootzone provides the grass plants with the correct balance of nutrients as and when required, through the soil as nature intended. Horses grazing this land will then acquire the correct balance of nutrients through their natural diet. When forage is correctly mineralized, the animal will feel replete sooner and will consequently eat less.

  • There are many stud managers out there unaware of what their soil holds in terms of valuable trace elements and minerals which are the bedrock of vital nutrients for the horses grazing
  • In partnership with Field Science (www.fieldscience.com) we analyze the soil and find out which trace elements and minerals may be missing and then make up a tailor made mineral dressing of the deficient elements to rebalance the soil
  • With the addition of bacteria, the dressing makes available the nutrients horses need for their daily diet
  • The addition of the beneficial microbes into the soil and as a foliar application helps make available a higher number of these elements. It also acts as a natural immune boost as well as a fungicide on the grass.

The benefits are many fold...here are a few:

  • Increased availability of trace elements and minerals in soil
  • Balanced availability of trace elements and minerals in soil
  • Improved root growth in the grass
  • Improved vital mineral and nutrient content in grass
  • Ability to reduce chemical fertilisers and fungicides
  • Improved microbial activity in soil
  • Livestock health and fertility improve with no need for mineral supplements and less need for fertiliser
  • Foals will develop correctly, with strong bones
  • Boron will enable far better utilisation of Calcium by the body and correct musclature
  • The grass will grow evenly, with far less need for synthetic fertiliser (if any!)
  • Fungal attack to the grass plants will be reduced as the plant too has an optimised immune system so it is able to resist infection from fungal attack. The fungal poisons (mycotoxins) in grass plants have been associated with poor fertility in both sheep and cattle. We see no reason why this is not the case in horses, so to be able to prevent this is paramount
  • An important trace element to a horse is selenium, as it plays a major role in developing and maintaining the muscalature, in disease, resistance and in optimising fertility

We recognize the importance of highest quality stud land paddocks and the necessity for horses to have the very best natural grass available, rich in nutrients. It is simply not good enough to have good looking grass which has been falsely grown with a chemical additive which whilst it looks greener, bigger and better it actually provides very little vital nutrient content for the horse.

Manna Biologic and Field Science working together

Horses are grazing animals and need to eat constantly. Their grass diet is low-energy and high fiber and the constant input ensures the gut is continually working. The caecum is far more sensitive than say a cow rumen and as such needs a natural diet as the microbial population is designed specifically for grass. A natural diet also avoids acid issues which can cause gastric ulcers

It is imperative that the soil’s fertility is correctly balanced so the grass supplies the correct balance of nutrition in the horses’ diet. This will ensure that the horse’s immune system is optimised thus enabling it to resist infection. Fertility will also improve as the levels of selenium and vitamin E are correctly available ensuring more effective serving to the stallion and easier foaling with reduced occurrences of malpresentations / dystocia

Grass sickness is prolific amongst the UK’s horses. This is a bacterial infection caused by chlostridium botulinum. Whilst at this stage Manna Biologic and Field Science cannot claim to eradicate the infection from pastures, we are confident that once the immune system is functioning correctly, the horse will be in a better position to resist infection from this bacterium, as we have seen in our trials.
